Argentina: province of Santa Fe launches mixed wind-solar 50 MW tender

Through the tender, the province’s state-owned power provider Empresa Provincial de la Energía (EPE) intends to select PV power projects not exceeding 5 MW in size, and wind farms up to 10 MW. Selected projects will be awarded a 20-year PPA.

Empresa Provincial de la Energía (EPE), the power provider of the Argentinean province of Santa Fe, has issued a tender to select wind and solar power projects with a combined capacity of 50 MW.

The local government said the tender is aimed at selecting PV projects not larger than 5 MW, and wind projects up to 10 MW, with selected projects to be awarded a 20-year PPA.

“These new facilities are intended to improve the levels of tension in the 33 kV transmission lines between Tostado and Rafaela, and between Casilda and Rufino,” the government stressed. These lines have been chosen as they are not connected to each other, according to the statement.

The projects will be developed in the frame of the province’s renewable energy program Generfe. “This program has a great environmental benefit because it stops consuming energy obtained from fossil fuels, while also providing a clear quality of life benefit to people, as blackouts are reduced with the local grid having better tension throughout the day,” said Santa Fe’s minister of energy Verónica Geese.

Through these projects, an estimated annual generation of more than 96,000 MWh will be reached, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of more than 30,000 households, according to the local government.

The province of Santa Fe, located in northern Argentina, boasts one of the world’s highest solar irradiation levels, and has pioneered the development of PV since the beginning of this decade with several initiatives and programs, including a regional scheme for prosumers.
