Hive Energy, Wirsol seek approval for 350-MW solar/storage plan

November 21 (Solar) – UK solar developer Hive Energy and its partner Wirsol Energy Ltd are seeking planning permission for a 350-MW unsubsidised solar-plus-storage complex in the UK.

The partners, through joint venture company Cleve Hill Solar Park Ltd, have submitted a Development Consent Order (DCO) application to the Planning Inspectorate last week. If the application is accepted, expected to occur within 28 days, a formal assessment process on the project will start, said the companies behind the scheme.

The Cleve Hill solar farm and its incorporated battery storage system will be located near Faversham and Whitstable on the North Kent Coast in South East England. Once up and running, the complex is expected to produce enough electricity for over 91,000 homes.

As the plant is expected to be larger than 50 MW in size, the scheme is classified as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP). A final decision by the Secretary of State is expected to be issued in the winter of 2019/2020, according to the project's website.
