Solarcentury secures permit for 200 MW of PV in southern Spain

Four projects – “Cerrado Cabrera”, “El primo Aleman”, “Hazas de los sesenta” and “Los Gonzalez” – each totaling 50 MW will be located in Alcalá de Guadaíra, near Seville. Work on the plants is expected to commence in April 2019.

U.K.-based PV project developer Solarcentury has obtained authorization from the regional government of Andalucía (Junta de Andalucía) to build four solar parks in Alcalá de Guadaíra, Seville.

The projects  – “Cerrado Cabrera”, “El primo Aleman”, “Hazas de los sesenta” and “Los Gonzalez”  –  are set to generate a total of 370 GWh of electricity annually, enough energy to supply up to 105,000 homes in the region.

Overall, Solarcentury says it has a PV project portfolio in Andalusia totaling around 500 MW. These four in Alcalá de Guadaira are said to be the first to reach the status of “Ready to Build”. Construction on the four plants is expected to begin in April 2019, with completion scheduled after 12 months. They will sell power through a PPA to an unspecified entity at a fixed price.

The projects are being developed together with Texla, a Seville-based engineering company with more than 20 years of experience in the construction and maintenance of renewable energy projects in Spain.

Today’s announcement adds to the recent agreement that the company reached with German group Encavis AG for the construction of a 300 MW solar plant in Talayuela, near Cáceres, in Extremadura, and “reinforces its commitment to the Spanish market,” said Solarcentury in a statement released.
