Iberdrola signs solar PPA with Spain's Uvesco


November 15 (Solar) – Spanish power utility Iberdrola SA (BME:IBE) announced today it will supply renewable electricity to local Uvesco Group under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) signed by the companies.

According to Iberdrola, 100% of the electricity will come from its 391-MW Nunez de Balboa solar project, to be built in the autonomous community of Extremadura. This photovoltaic (PV) plant will be the largest in Europe, the firm stated.

Grupo Uvesco a leading food distributor in the northern part of the peninsula with a network of 220 supermarkets and four large logistics centres. Under this PPA, the first of its kind signed between an energy company and a distribution group in Spain, Uvesco Group should be able to avoid around 26,700 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year.

Iberdrola has a global installed capacity exceeding 29,400 MW, of which more than 15,800 MW in Spain, it noted.
