Alta Devices achieves 29.1% efficiency for GaAs solar cell

November 15 (Solar) – Alta Devices, a California-based subsidiary of Hanergy Thin Film Power Group Ltd (HKG:0566), has achieved a new efficiency record for its single-junction gallium arsenide (GaAs) solar cell.

Germany-based solar energy testing laboratory Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems has rated Alta Devices’ single junction GaAs cell as the world’s most efficient with a record setting 29.1% conversion efficiency, the US company announced today. This is the seventh time that Alta Devices breaks the record since 2010.

The Hanergy group also holds the efficiency world record for solar modules — 25.1%, according to the announcement.

Alta’s solar cells can be used to power various products, from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to electric vehicles (EVs) and smart sensors.
