November 8 (Solar) – Swiss solar equipment maker Meyer Burger Technology AG (SWX:MBTN) said on Wednesday it has received the first order for its latest generation wafer inspection system from a photovoltaics (PV) manufacturer in China.
The unnamed customer has ordered 20 WIS-08 tools developed by Meyer Burger’s subsidiary Hennecke Systems GmbH. The Swiss company said that delivery of the equipment will begin this year.
Meyer Burger noted that presently about 80% of all solar wafers around the world are inspected by Hennecke systems. Its latest offering examines micro-cracks, inclusions, saw marks, defective edges, thickness variation and other parameters.
The WIS-08 is compatible with diamond wire and slurry cut wafers. It delivers a throughput of 8,000 wafers per hour or 0.41 seconds per wafer, Meyer Burger said.
