Enel breaks ground on 220-MW solar plant in Mexico's Tlaxcala


November 7 (Solar) – Italian energy major Enel SpA (BIT:ENEl), through its local renewables arm Enel Green Power Mexico (EGPM), has broken ground on a 220-MW solar park in Mexico's Tlaxcala state.

Named Magdalena II, the photovoltaic (PV) project will require an investment of USD 165 million (EUR 144.51m). Scheduled to come online in the second half of 2019, the PV facility will be comprised of 550,000 solar panels.

Once fully operational, Magdalena II is expected to be able to generate approximately 600 GWh per year, enough to offset more than 330,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually. who was quoted by local media.

Currently, EGPM has a portfolio of some 1,816 MW of green power of which 675 MW come from wind and 1,089 MW from solar, with the rest being hydropower plants.
