Singapore seeks proposals for 100-MWp floating PV project

November 6 (Solar) – Singapore’s Economic Development Board (EDB) is seeking input on a project for the development of a 100-MWp floating solar park in the Kranji reservoir, in the northern part of the country.

The public body last week issued a Request for Information (RFI) to explore the possibility for the large-scale project. The proposed facility, if constructed, will generate electricity for private sector consumption.

The agency will hold an information session on November 30, while project proposals will be accepted by February 15, 2019. Bids will be assessed mainly based on the price offered for generating electricity from the solar park. At the end of the exploratory stage, EDB will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the winning developer, with a power purchase agreement (PPA) to be awarded at the final stage of the selection process.

EDB explained that Kranji reservoir was suggested as the initial location for the project in view of estimates that only a small portion of the reservoir’s surface could accommodate up to 100 MWp of floating PV. Such a facility will save 52,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year. However, the implementation of the project is contingent on the results of comprehensive environmental studies, EDB noted.
