Recurrent Energy inks PPAs for 150-MW solar-plus-storage plant

October 31 (Solar) – Recurrent Energy, a wholly-owned unit of Canadian Solar Inc (NASDAQ:CSIQ), on Tuesday unveiled two deals to supply power from its 150-MW Slate solar park in California.

The photovoltaic (PV) complex, located in Kings County, is equipped with a 45-MW/180-MWh energy storage facility using lithium-ion batteries. Under two separate 15-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) it will supply electricity to local community-owned electricity agencies Silicon Valley Clean Energy and Monterey Bay Community Power.

The solar farm is scheduled for commissioning in 2021, delivering 55% of its output to Silicon Valley Clean Energy and 45% to Monterey Bay. Overall, the contracted capacity will be enough to meet the demand of 37,500 households, Recurrent Energy estimates. The latter secured the PPAs under a joint procurement process for renewables capacity in California held by Silicon Valley Clean Energy and Monterey Bay Community Power in September last year.
