Dominion calls bids for 500 MW of solar, wind in Virginia

October 25 (Solar) – Dominion Energy Inc (NYSE:D) on Wednesday announced a solicitation that seeks to contract up to 500 MW wind and solar in Virginia under a plan to add 3 GW of renewables capacity in the state.

The Request for Proposals (RFP) is open to solar and onshore wind projects in Virginia, with capacities of at least 5 MW. Dominion seeks to contract capacity or environmental attributes such as Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), or sign power purchase agreements (PPAs) for the output. All facilities have to be online in 2020.

Interested parties will be able to submit Notices of Intent to Bid and Confidentiality Agreements by November 2. The final asset purchase and power purchase proposals are due by December 13, 2018 and March 14, 2019, respectively.

Dominion intends to to develop 3 GW of solar and wind projects under Virginia's Grid Transformation & Security Act (GTSA), which became law this summer. The proposed capacity, expected to be enough to meet the electricity demand of 750,000 homes, will be under development or in operation by early 2022. In line with the plan, the company will be issuing 500-MW RFPs each year until it meets the target, it said.

Last week, Dominion launched a Request for Information survey to seek input from its non-residential clients regarding the 3-GW renewables expansion programme.
