October 23 (Solar) – US utility Duke Energy Corp (NYSE:DUK) has partnered up with local firm Hunt Alternative Energy Investments and installed 5,865 solar panels on 284 homes at Shaw Military Housing in South Carolina.
The photovoltaic (PV) panels are expected to produce approximately 2.4 million kWh per year and help to offset some 40% of the total annual electrical consumption at the housing in Shaw Air Force Base.
Through its solar rebate programme, Duke Energy invested more than USD 50 million (EUR 43.61m) in rebates as an extra incentive for customers who wanted to go solar across its South Carolina footprint.
The PV project is the result of an initiative from Hunt Southern Group, a Hunt Military Community, and its military partner, Shaw Air Force Base, Hunt explained in its press release.
