Downer wins contract to build 349-MWp Aussie solar park

October 18 (Solar) – Australia-based Downer EDI Ltd (ASX:DOW) today said it has secured an order to build Innogy SE’s (ETR:IGY) 349-MWp Limondale solar park in New South Wales.

The contract was awarded by the German group’s subsidiary Belectric Solar and Battery GmbH, which is in charge of the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) and operation and maintenance (O&M). Construction of the facility is set to begin this month, Innogy said when it took a final investment decision on the project in September.

Notice to proceed has already been issued to Downer, the Aussie firm said, adding that construction is expected to be completed in 2020. To be located near Balranald, the photovoltaic (PV) park will be the largest one in Australia when fully operational.

Innogy agreed to buy the Limondale project from Overland Sun Farming earlier this year, together with the 115-MWp Hillston solar scheme in New South Wales from the same developer. The total investment in the two plants, including acquisition of the project rights, is estimated at over EUR 400 million (USD 460m).
