October 16 (Solar) – Brazil's Piaui state government on Monday gave the thumbs-up to the start of a competitive process for the selection of contractors for eight photovoltaic (PV) projects of 5 MWp each.
The winning companies will build, operate, maintain and manage the solar farms, the output of which will go for the public administration. A surplus of clean energy is expected to be used in strategic projects or to meet demand from public agencies, the government stressed.
The PV projects represent a combined investment in the order of BRL 173.4 million (USD 46.8m/EUR 40.4m). Approximately 40 direct jobs will be created under this initiative, the government estimates.
When complete, the solar power plants will help Piaui save at least BRL 6.4 million per year on its electricity bill, said governor Wellington Dias.
