Dominican Republic okays 58-MW PV plant construction

October 10 (Solar) – The Dominican Republic's National Energy Commission (CNE) green lighted on Tuesday the construction of a 57.96-MW photovoltaic (PV) park.

The Montecristi Solar Fase II, as it is named, is the second stage of the Montecristi solar complex. With the new addition, the PV facility will reach a capacity of 115.92 MW, the government said in its press release.

To be built in the municipality of Guayubin, Montecristi province, the solar project will require USD 180 million (EUR 156.63m) in investments. The governmental okay comes through resolution CNE-CP-0004-2018, after the CNE's board granted the local company Montecristi Solar the provisional concession for the studies of the construction, installation and commissioning of electrical generation works.

In July, the first stage of this project commenced operations. It elevated the Dominican Republic's non-hydro renewable energy capacity to 222.91 MW, the government noted.
