Texas utility breaks ground on 5-MW-solar-plus-10-MW-storage project

October 9 (Solar) – Texas utility CPS Energy on Monday broke ground on a project that will include a 5-MW solar installation and a 10-MW battery storage system.

The company's first solar energy and battery storage project, worth USD 16.3 million (EUR 14.3m), will be located in San Antonio, on land provided by Southwest Research Institute (SwRI). As previously announced, it will be built by RES Americas, which has been selected as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor. The facility is expected to become operational in the summer of 2019.

The project, approved earlier this year by CPS Energy's board of trustees, is supported by a USD-3-million grant from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
