Cemig contracts 152.5 MWa of wind, solar power in auction

October 5 (Solar) – Brazilian utility Cia Energetica de Minas Gerais SA (BVMF:CMIG4), better known as Cemig, has contracted 152.5 average megawatts (MWa) from wind and solar plants totalling 388 MW in a tender.

Cemig did not disclose the specific amount of energy of each source nor the number of contracts, or the names of the winners. All power purchase agreements (PPA) have a 20-year term, starting on January 1, 2022, the company said on Thursday through a note to the market.

According to the auction announcement made in August, the reason behind this initiative was for Cemig to meet demand in the Southeast, Midwest, South and Northeast markets. The tender was open to companies that fulfilled predetermined conditions such as having had their projects qualified for the A-4 or A-6 auctions of 2018.
