Brazil's wind generation rises 8% in Sept

October 4 (Solar) – Brazil's wind power output in September rose 7.7% year-on-year to 7,708 average megawatts (MWa), according to preliminary figures released by the Power Trading Chamber (CCEE).

The share of wind power in the overall generation increased to 12.2% from 11.3%, as shown by data published by CCEE in the InfoMercado Semanal, the weekly bulletin for energy generation and consumption.

Among the other renewable sources, solar was the only one to also present growth in the period in question — to 408 MWa from just 106 MWa in September 2017. Biomass and hydropower generation decreased slightly to 4,350 MWa from 4,501 MWa, and 38,112 MWa from 38,300 MWa, respectively.

Overall, Brazilian electricity generation in September recorded a 0.7% decrease when compared to the same month a year earlier, with 62,941 MWa delivered to the National Interconnected System (SIN). Demand arrived at 60,876 MWa, CCEE noted.
