France assigns 230 MW in rooftop solar tender

Final prices were 5% lower than in the previous tender of the same kind. Around 40% of the selected projects were submitted by agricultural enterprises.

France’s newly appointed Minister of the Ecological and Solidary Transition (MTES), François de Rugy has announced the list of 392 winning projects under the fifth round of the country’s three-year tender for rooftop PV installations ranging in size from 100 kW to 8 MW.

“Once again, solar installations on buildings show increasing competitiveness with prices down by 5% compared to the previous bidding round,” said De Rugy. The final average price of all selected projects was €76.8/MWh, which is 5% down from the price of €80.8/MWh registered in April’s tender. De Rugy also revealed that large projects within this bidding round have registered a historically low price of €72.2/MWh.

The graph, issued by the French Government, show how prices have dropped considerably over the past two years.

The French Government highlighted that around 40% of selected projects will be realized on agricultural buildings, “which will provide new sources of income for farmers.”

De Rugy said that the seventh bidding round for projects of this kind will be closed in early November, and that it will assign a larger capacity: 300 MW.

This is in accordance with the decision last December by former Minister Nicolas Hulot to increase the annual capacity to be allocated through the series of solar tenders from 1.45 GW to 2.45 GW.

The results of the tender for solar projects for self-consumption were also revealed. Overall, 48 projects with a combined capacity of 20 MW were selected.

These projects, said De Rugy, have an average self-consumption rate of around 98% and are entitled to sell excess power to the grid at a tariff €26.8/MWh. In the previous tender of the same kind, just 2.2 MW of projects were assigned.
