September 26 (Solar) – Japan Renewable Energy (JRE) held on Tuesday a ground-breaking ceremony for a 13.18-MW solar farm in Shiga prefecture.
The JRE Takashima Solar Power Plant, as it is named, is the company's first photovoltaic (PV) facility in Shiga prefecture. The facility will be comprised of 38,764 panels and is expected to generate enough power to meet the annual demand of about 3,940 local households.
The PV farm, located in Takashima city, is expected to be up and running sometime in June 2020. Local utility Kansai Electric Power Co Inc (TYO:9503) will be the sole purchaser of the plant's output, according to the company's press release.
Earlier this month, JRE started the commercial operation of a 23.1-MW solar park in Japan’s Ibaraki prefecture.
