September 25 (Solar) – UK-based renewables developer Renewable Energy Systems Ltd (RES) has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for a 100-MW solar project that it will design, develop and build in Mississippi.
The deal is with Cooperative Energy, which will purchase all the electricity generated at the solar power plant, the companies said in separate announcements on Monday.
The project, which will use around 363,000 panels, is called Delta's Edge and is located near Greenwood in Carroll County. It is expected to start operations in 2021-2022 and to produce enough power to meet the needs of almost 16,400 homes a year.
According to Cooperative Energy's president and chief executive Jim Compton, Delta's Edge will be the largest solar power plant in Mississippi. Cooperative Energy supplies electricity to 11 member-owned electric distribution cooperatives.
