Weekly round-up of renewable energy PPA news (Sep 17-23)

September 24 (Solar) – Most of the power purchase agreement (PPA) news in the past week are related to projects in Germany, but we also reported on deals in India and Brazil. As usual, the weekly summary also contains updates on tenders awarding long-term contracts.


— Engie seals PPA for 385-MW Arkona offshore wind park

French energy group Engie SA (EPA:ENGI) said on Thursday it has inked a four-year PPA for the output of the 385-MW Arkona offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea. Engie plans to market the electricity on the German day-ahead and intraday market.

— Enercon inks wind PPA with German cold storage association

German wind turbine maker Enercon GmbH will be supplying electricity to the German cold storage and cooling logistics association (VDKL) power pool from 10.6 MW of wind parks in the country. "Our PPA enables continued economic operation, making it an ideal energy marketing model for existing wind farm operators who no longer receive EEG compensation," said Uwe Behrens, Quadra Energy’s managing director.

— Low interest, 76.5 MW of awards in 2nd German biomass tender

Germany’s only biomass auction this year has concluded with 79 winners, representing a combined capacity of 76.54 MW.

— Another 200-MW mixed auction starts in Germany

Germany’s Federal Network Agency launched the next auction in which onshore wind and solar will compete against each other. The tender will award 200 MW, with the deadline for bids being November 2.

— Gujarat solar tender sees tariff of INR 2.44/kWh

A 500-MW solar tender by Indian utility Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL) has seen bids as low as INR 2.44 (USD 0.034/EUR 0.029) per kWh, matching the record low for Indian solar tariffs. Mercom Capital Group reported that the lowest tariff was quoted by Aditya Birla Renewables and Giriraj Renewables (Avadaa).

— Mytrah inks 300-MW wind PPA with SECI

Indian renewable power producer Mytrah Energy India Pvt Ltd has signed a PPA with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for a 300-MW wind power plant to be built in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

EDP Renovaveis SA (ELI:EDPR) has secured a 15-year PPA for the 199-MW Pereira Barreto solar project in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo.
