September 20 (Solar) – French renewable power producer Akuo Energy today announced the start of construction on France's first and Europe's largest floating solar power plant — a 17-MWc project called O'MEGA1.
The facility will be installed on the lake in the old Piolenc quarry in Vaucluse, southeast France, and is expected to produce enough power to meet the needs of 4,733 homes. It will consist of 47,000 photovoltaic (PV) panels and Hydrelio floating structures by Ciel & Terre. Akuo is the manufacturer and exclusive distributor of the Hydrelio product in France.
Bouygues Energies Services has been tasked with building the solar power plant, which will be selling its output directly on the markets via the E6 aggregator.
Akuo has secured EUR 12.8 million (USD 15m) in non-recourse financing for the project from Natixis Energeco. The company has also opened the project for investments by local residents and municipality of Piolenc.
