Brazil okays 883 MW of green energy projects

September 13 (Solar) – Brazil's Minister of Mines and Energy, Moreira Franco, this week signed the authorisation for installation of 883 MW of renewable energy projects, news agency Agencia Brasil said on Wednesday.

In all, 25 schemes were greenlighted, of which 14 are solar, eight are wind, two are hydro and one is sugarcane bagasse biomass. Secured in previous federal energy auctions, these plants are scheduled to begin operations starting from 2021. They will be located in Ceara, Bahia, Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso state.

According estimates from the Ministry of Mines and Energy, cited by Agencia Brasil, the 883 MW will require BRL 4.5 billion (USD 1bn/EUR 930m) in investments. Ceara is the big winner with 14 solar projects representing an investment of BRL 2 billion, the news agency noted.
