China: Jolywood secures $25 million n-type bifacial module supply agreement



Jolywood (Taizhou) Solar Technology has signed a deal with a subsidiary of the State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC) for the supply of 64.6 MW of its n-type bifacial 301 Wp solar PV modules.

The Chinese manufacturer of PV backsheets, and high-efficiency monocrystalline n-type bifacial solar cells and modules, has secured a 64.6 MW module supply agreement worth around RMB 171.30 million (US$25.16 million), or roughly RMB 2.65 ($0.39) per unit. They will be used in the government’s “National Photovoltaic Leader Project”.

The agreement was signed with SPIC, said to be one of China’s top five power generators established by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC). Jolywood expects the order to account 5.28% of its 2017 audited operating results.

Overall, Jolywood says it has won orders totaling RMB 400 million ($58.73 million) from SPIC this year, for the first batch of systems of the government project.

Under an earlier deal, Jolywood says it is also manufacturing 100 MW of modules for SPIC’s Sihong projects.

Several trends combined

Jolywood was the first manufacturer to participate in the pv magazine test, last September. It achieved an “A” rating with its JW-D60N module, on the A + / A / B / C / D scale. With this module, the manufacturer has implemented several state of the art technologies.

The module cells employ n-type wafers, which allows higher efficiency and mitigates light induced degradation during the first 1,000 hours of illumination; it uses PERT technology; and it is bifacial.

At the end of this May, meanwhile, it announced it was collaborating with Belgium-based Imec, which developed a screen printing process for n-PERT solar cells. The research institute said at the time that it had used the process to develop bifacial cells with an average frontside efficiency of 21.9%.
