National scheme reportedly aims to drive installation in segments including residential and commercial and industrial facilities.
A report in the Daily News Egypt newspaper yesterday named 11 of 16 solar companies added to a list of approved installers for an Egyptian scheme to drive the take-up of small scale PV.
Although light on details, the report identified Egyptian Solar Energy Systems Co., Evergreen Solar, Infinity Solar, Electromatic, Greenfox, KarmSolar, Hammer Electric For Solar Technology, Green Tech Solutions, Solar Power, Global Egypt and Smart Engineering Solutions among the contenders who have been added to make up a total of 38 participants in the National Project for Solar Cell Systems (Egypt-pv) scheme.
The newspaper article states the scheme, aimed at the residential; commercial and industrial; hotel; and public buildings segments, is being backed by the Global Environment Facility grant funding body, the UN Development Program and Egypt’s Industrial Modernization Center.
Under the terms of the scheme, developers can reportedly secure financial support for 25% of project costs “for the industrial sector projects” with a $250 subsidy available per kilowatt installed, up to a maximum of $37,500 for capacities of up to 150 kW.
With technical support available for the approved developers, the report quotes project manager Hind Farouh as stating a meeting will be held “within weeks” to discuss applications for projects and financial and technical support.
