Dominican Republic to add 240 MW of wind, solar in coming months

August 7 (Solar) – The Dominican Republic Electrical Industry Association (ADIE) announced that 240.3 MW of wind and solar projects will be connected to its grid in the coming months.

In all, the country expects to switch on five large-scale renewable energy projects, including 182.3 MW of wind and 58 MW of solar capacity. These projects represent a total investment of approximately USD 500 million (EUR 432.4m), the association added.

The country has increased the share of renewable energy in power production to 4% in the last year. "Thanks to such investments the Dominican Republic has one  of the most diversified power generation mixes in the region", ADIE executive vice president Manuel Cabral said.

Last month, we reported news related to two big solar projects in the Dominican Republic with German support. F&S Solar Concept GmbH completed a 58-MW solar park and development finance institution DEG arranged a USD-62-million long-term loan for a 116-MW solar plant.
