to-the-point: Hawaii utility looks for 3 MW of community renewables

July 31 (Solar) – Kauai Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC) on the island of Kauai, Hawaii, is looking for proposals for up to 3 MW of community-based renewable energy projects.

The company announced the request for proposals on Friday last week and interested bidders have until August 31 to submit an intent to respond.

KIUC's Community-Based Renewable Energy (CBRE) programme is in line with a 2015 legislation, Act 100, which requires Hawaii's electric utilities to create a tariff to allow customers to participate in community renewable programmes.

The programme is aimed at expanding the market to customers who at the moment can not generate renewable energy due to their location, building type, or other obstacles.
