Total Eren to expand Brazilian solar portfolio to 140 MWp

July 18 (Solar) – French renewables developer Total Eren said today it has financed and commissioned a 25-MWp solar park in Brazil and commenced construction of a 90-MWp photovoltaic (PV) portfolio in the Latin American country.

The 25-MWp BJL 11 Solar plant is the company’s first PV asset in Brazil where it has an additional 115 MWp of capacity under construction. Located in the municipality of Bom Jesus da Lapa, Bahia state, the plant uses 78,000 PV panels that will be capable of producing enough electricity for about 23,000 homes. It was put on stream in May and will operate under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Brazilian Energy Trade Chamber (CCEE).

Total Eren completed financing for the project last month with a group of lenders including the Brazilian Development Bank Banco do Nordeste do Brasil SA, Itau BBA and BNP Paribas (EPA:BNP).

Meanwhile, the French firm recently started building three solar parks of 30 MWp each in Dracena municipality, Sao Paulo, scheduled to be switched on in June 2019. The projects were secured in a 2014 tender by local power sector regulator Aneel and have in place a 20-year PPA with CCEE.

In January, Total Eren initiated construction of a 25-MWp solar park in Bahia, expected to kick off commercial operations in November.
