German firm F&S completes 58-MW PV plant in Dominican Republic

July 18 (Solar) – German firm F&S Solar Concept GmbH has completed a 58-MW solar park in the Dominican Republic, the local government said on Tuesday.

The Montecristi Solar park, as it is named, is comprised of 215,000 modules and will be able to generate 103,000 MWh, enough electricity to power more than 50,000 homes, F&S Solar Caribe Holding director, Duran Alabi, said.

The photovoltaic (PV) plant is located in a 208 hectare area in Guayubin town. Considered to be the largest solar faciliy in the Caribbean region,  Montecristi is the first of two plants scheduled to enter operation under a USD-225-million (EUR 193m) investment agreement entered into by the German company with the local government.

With the start of Montecristi commercial operations, the Dominican Republic's non-hydro renewable energy capacity has increased to 222.91 MW, the government noted.
