Acciona secures short-term PPA in Portugal

The Spanish renewable energy company will sell power to a local glass container producer for a year and a half. The electricity will be provided by its 45 MW solar park in southern Portugal, as well as by other wind power facilities.

Acciona has announced that its unit Acciona Green Energy Developments has agreed to sell power to Portuguese glass container manufacturer Vidrala under a short-term PPA.

The company said the PPA will span from Jul. 1, 2018 to Dec. 31, 2019, and the electricity will be sold to Vidrala’s manufacturing facility in the Leiria District, central Portugal.

Acciona specified that all of the provided energy will come from renewable sources, while stressing that its current power generation assets in the country have a combined capacity of 165.5 MW, which comprise 19 wind power plants totaling 119.7 MW and a 45.8 MW solar park in Amareleja, in the Moura District, southern Portugal.

“Working with such an important client as Vidrala will allow us to grow our renewable energy marketing efforts in Portugal and highlight, once more, the competitiveness of renewable energy solutions that also help to reduce the carbon footprint of the companies we supply”, the company stated.

The Amareleja solar plant was finalized by Acciona in 2008. The facility is owned by 66% by Energia, while the remaining stake is of Japanese trading company Mitsubishi Corporation. The solar park was built in approximately 13 months with 2,520 solar trackers and 262.080 PV panels.
