Canadian Solar puts online 56-MWp solar park in Japan

June 28 (Solar) – Canadian Solar Inc (NASDAQ:CSIQ) said today it has began commercial operations at a 56.3-MWp solar park in Japan.

Consisting of 173,000 Canadian Solar CS6U modules, the Yamaguchi Shin Mine photovoltaic (PV) plant, is expected to produce about 66,000 MWh of electricity per year.

The electricity generated by the PV facility will be sold to Chugoku Electric Power Co Inc (TYO:9504) under a 20-year contract at a feed-in tariff (FiT) of JPY 36 (USD 0.33/EUR 0.28) per kWh.

The Yamaguchi Shin Mine facility is the largest solar plant the company has in Japan. Including it, Canadian Solar has 141.9 MWp of operating solar power assets in the country. This portfolio does not include the 81 MWp of project assets the company sold previously, chairman and CEO Shawn Qu stated.
