Sembcorp wins 50-MW rooftop solar deal in Singapore

June 25 (Solar) – Sembcorp Industries Ltd (SGX:U96) said on Sunday that one of its wholly-owned units has won a project to install 50 MW of grid-tied rooftop solar systems in Singapore.

Sembcorp Solar Singapore Pte Ltd was selected by the Housing & Development Board (HDB) and the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) to build, own, operate and maintain photovoltaic (PV) arrays across 848 HDB blocks under the West Coast and Choa Chu Kang Town Councils and 27 other government sites.

The firm will start construction work in the third quarter of 2018, with the goal of completing the systems by the second quarter of 2020. It noted that its winning bid was put together with engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) partner Kurihara Kogyo Co Ltd.

This latest project will be internally funded. With it, Sembcorp grows its combined solar energy portfolio in Singapore to 104 MW of capacity located across over 1,500 sites. Overall, the company has more than 2,500 MW of renewable energy assets in Singapore, China and India, and aims to hit 4,000 MW by 2022.
