to-the-point: SunPower, Atlas to develop solar project in Mexico's Hidalgo

March 29 (Solar) – Mexico's Hidalgo state announced on Wednesday that SunPower Corp (NASDAQ:SPWR) and Atlas Renewable Energy will build the first large-scale solar plant in the region.

No details about the investment were made public.

To be located in a 410-hectare (98.8 acres) area in the city of Nopala de Villagran, the photovoltaic (PV) facility will be able to generate 300 GWh of energy per year, enough to meet the annual demand of 120,000 local homes, according to the government.

Scheduled for completion in the second half of 2019, the PV plant is expected to offset some 215,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually.
